Applicant FAQs

Commonly asked questions by Live Scan applicants

How Do I reset my password?

  • After selecting the appropriate agency on applicantservices.com, or by going to your organizations page custom Applicant Services page, select ‘my account’
  • Once the log in pop-up appears, please click, forgot password.
  • Follow the steps to reset your password and please be sure to check spam and other folders in your inbox that may catch inbound email messages.
  • If you’re locked out of your account, please visit this knowledge article.

Do I need an appointment or can I show-up or walk-in to a live scan location?

  • An appointment is needed for all transactions on our website.
    • Some locations allow “Walk-In Appointments”. If you are selecting a location which is set up for walk-in appointments, you will still need to complete the remaining steps in the online application to receive a QR Code.
    • If you do not complete the online application and do not receive a QR Code form, then the service center will have no way to pull up your transaction and take the fingerprints.
    • Whether you are selecting a location and then also a specific date and time, or you are making an appointment to walk-in at your own convenience, an appointment is always required to complete the online application.
  • To do so, go to applicantservices.com or to your organizations page
  • Click on the Get Started button for the appropriate transaction type needed
  • Complete each step of the online application, then select a location that works for you.

Do I need separate appointments if I have to do multiple transactions?

  • Each transaction that you create will coincide with one appointment. If you are creating multiple transactions, each transaction would require that you create a new appointment with it.
  • We do not restrict transactions to only be processed during their appointment slot however, so if you are booking multiple transactions/appointments at a single service center, when you arrive to your appointment, you can process both transactions concurrently. There would be no need to wait after the first transaction until your reserved 2nd appointment time.

How much does a live scan (fingerprint background check) cost?

  • The cost of Live Scan fingerprints varies based on transaction type, applicable government fees, and if your organization is opting to cover any portion of the fees for you.
  • As an individual, you are charged for a Live Scan during the appointment scheduling process. Once you have set an appointment, you are charged for the appointment on the applicantservices.com online portal, not at the Live Scan facility.
  • If your organization has provided a link to you for our website in order to get started, please make sure you use it. This will ensure you get the pre-negotiated rate, or in some cases have the total cost billed to your organization.
  • The website will show you the total cost of your transaction before you are required to pay it.

Can I do a Live Scan if I’m not a US citizen?

  • Citizenship is only required for an FBI Criminal History Summary (Electronic Departmental Order)
    • If you are not a U.S. citizen, you cannot complete an FBI Live Scan.
  • For all other background checks offered on our website, citizenship is not required, though we highly recommend including your SSN, if you have one, when completing the applicant demographics portion of each application.
  • Please check with your Requesting Agency to determine your eligibility and transaction type you are cleared for.

How long are live scan results valid for?

  • The length of time depends on the industry, agency, state, and transaction type.
  • For more information on this, please contact your employer or organization you are completing a background check on behalf of.

Where do I find the results of my Live Scan (fingerprint background check) and how will I be notified?

  • If you are completing an employment type of transaction, the results of your background check will be sent to your Requesting Agency (whomever is requiring you to complete the check).
  • If you are completing an FBI Criminal History Summary (Electronic Departmental Order), criminal history results will be sent to your online account for you to access personally.
